Description from Goodreads:

When the elves discover that Santa’s sleigh is in a terrible state, they let their imaginations go wild – and soon there are sleighs of every kind, inspired by big rigs, motorcycles, zeppelins, and much more!

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site and the celebrated illustrator of Michael Chabon’s The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man, team up for spirited vehicular silliness and classic Christmas cheer in this turbo-charged read-aloud destined to become a holiday classic.

What I Thought:

We’re always on the lookout for a fun Christmas story to add into our collection, and The 12 Sleighs of Christmas is certainly our favourite new addition!

Santa has neglected to inform his staff that he may or may not have had a run-in with a tree last Christmas, and so the elves start to scramble to fix the sleigh. But why bother repairing a 400 year-old relic when you can create a hot rod?

Starting in a 12 Days of Christmas style (but thankfully combining a few of the later days for speed’s sake) this rhyming book is a fantastic bedtime read-aloud. Every day this week since this showed up in the mail the kids have been begging for it!

With the comic-book style fill used to colour the illustrations and the sketchy, expressive lines, Parker has captured our imaginations. The busy pages have my girls pouring over them, looking for hidden treasures.

I love that in the end, Santa ends up with his trusty ole sleigh and faithful reindeer. I mean, what would Christmas be without Rudolf?

What Evelyn Thought:

It’s good. I really liked it. There’s a really silly part when a guy said, “What kid could ever sleep through this?” I liked it because they were racing and I was like, “They’re right! There’s no way anyone could sleep through that!”
