If you’re a Potterhead I’m sure you’ve already picked up Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – either the original or the revamped version. Here’s why you should consider the new edition…

Six Reasons to Read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

  1. If you read the first edition, it will be a trip down memory lane

I read this book when it came out in 2001, and LOVED it. Sometime between graduating, moving out, and moving countries my copy had tragically vanished, so I hadn’t read it in years. And as a die-hard Potter fan I loved it even more reading it again now. I had forgotten so much!

  1. There are six new beasts included

JK Rowling added a few new creatures to the book with a very plausible explanation as to why they were missed the first time round. Three of the Ilvermorny house mascots are featured: the Horned Serpent, the Thunderbird, and the Wampus.

  1. There’s a new introduction from Newt himself

In addition to the original introduction by Mr. Scamander, there is now a foreword penned by the great Magizoologist. He mentions everyone’s favourite tabloid writer, Rita Skeeter, and attempts to dissuade readers from believing her articles.

  1. Future movie hints

You’ll have to read it for yourself to find all the clues, but they include things like, “It is true that I was the first person ever to capture Gellert Grindewald and also true that Albus Dumbledore was something more than a schoolteacher to me.”

  1. It’s hilarious

Did you know the Puffskein is a beloved wizarding child’s pet due to its love of eating boogers? Well now you do! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them is full of super funny facts.

  1. It’s beautiful

The illustrations are gorgeous, and reminiscent of turn-of-the-century etchings. If it wouldn’t also rip my soul in two to tear the pages out and frame them, I totally would.

So there you have it! Six reasons to read Fantastic Beasts. (Because you needed any more convincing…)
